On Thursday, 6 August, our teams in Cape Town and Johannesburg embraced the spirit of Mandela Day by supporting two incredible organizations:
📍 Hearts of Hope Home – Johannesburg
📍 SA Children’s Home – Cape Town
Why Mandela Day matters
Observed every 18 July, Nelson Mandela International Day commemorates Mandela’s legacy of 67 years of public service dedicated to human rights and social justice. It’s recognized by the UN as a global call to action, encouraging individuals and organizations to dedicate at least 67 minutes to making a difference. This year, the theme “It’s Still in Our Hands to Combat Poverty and Inequity” reminds us of our individual responsibility to reduce inequality and uplift communities.
Who we supported
🟡 Hearts of Hope Home (Johannesburg)
Hearts of Hope is dedicated to caring for orphaned and vulnerable children, providing them with a safe, loving, and family-centered environment. Their mission? To break the cycle of poverty by offering education, emotional support, and a chance for every child to grow up with hope.
🟡 SA Children’s Home (Cape Town)
As South Africa’s oldest welfare institution for children, SA Children’s Home provides residential care, life skills, and education support for children aged 6 to 18 who cannot live with their families. They focus on stability, development, and emotional well-being—giving kids the tools they need to succeed.
What we did this year
Our Johannesburg and Cape Town teams donated essential items to both homes to support their day-to-day needs. While the children were at school during our visit, the experience reinforced how vital it is to consistently support organizations shaping young lives.

The Cape Town team has also committed to returning to SA Children’s Home in the upcoming weeks to paint the boys’ and girls’ walls, creating bright, inspirational spaces where the children can paste motivational messages and express themselves freely. Small changes like these can significantly impact their sense of belonging and empowerment.
Small actions, big impact
Mandela famously said: “What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others.”
Your contribution, big or small, can help ensure these children have more than the basics; they have the chance to dream and thrive.
